What is this Fresh From The Oven?
Right now, Fresh From The Oven is just me, Jennifer. After years of slogging in the entertainment industry I have finally allowed the baker-within out of her cage. A friend once said that she likes to cook but ultimately it's a necessity and that's what makes baking better because when you bake it's a way to treat yourself or someone you love. I couldn't agree more!
I have always found sanctuary in the kitchen, for me it's a place of meditation and pure creativity. My earliest memories are of standing on a chair next to the stove helping my Mom stir the chocolate fudge. By the time I was 11 I was hosting make-believe cooking classes on Saturday mornings ala Julia Child. My students may have been in my imagination, but the baking wasn't--donuts, pretzels, pinwheels, I tried everything.
So here I am still trying recipes and sharing them with everyone who wants a taste. My baking journey has taught me the absolute necessity of balance both in life and in flavor. Although I bake, I am not a sweets person. Oh, I love rich, creamy and flaky, just not sugary. I want complex desserts & pastries and unique flavor combos. But I also want to taste the butter, vanilla and cocoa in Red Velvet Cake without being overwhelmed by sugary-sweet frosting. So that's my quest. Using the best ingredients, I bake balanced treats with layers of flavor and I'd like to share them with you.
